We Are The Fallen Rises From Evanescence’s Ashes

11 Jul

Ben Moody predicts that his just-unveiled new band, We Are The Fallen, will enjoy a peaceful co-existence rather than mortal combat with his old group, Evanescence.
“We wish them the best,” Moody, who co-founded Evanescence with singer Amy Lee in 1995 and left the band 2003 after co-writing its multi-platinum debut, Fallen, tells Billboard.com. He formed We Are The Fallen earlier this year with original Evanescence members John LeCompt on guitar and Rocky Gray on drums, adding bassist Marty O’Brien and “American Idol” Season 7 finalist Carly Smithson on vocals.
“There’s not really an Evanescence now,” Moody adds. “It’s Amy Lee playing as Evanescence with a bunch of other guys hired to play our parts. And she’s amazing — an incredible front person, a great songwriter, an incredible singer. There’s no reason we can’t both exist in the world. Musically, we’re going in completely different directions; ‘The Open Door’ (Evanescence’s 2006 album) sounds nothing like We Are The Fallen.”
After We Are The Fallen was unveiled, Lee issued a statement saying that “there’s some pretty weird stuff flying around right now” and that Evanescence is “working on new material that I’m extremely excited about…Look out for new music next year.” Moody feels the statement “kind of validates my point. I don’t really think she’s at all threatened by us. She said, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll have your music next year.’ But people might want something to listen to before then. That’s what we’re here for.”
We Are The Fallen has released its first song, Bury Me Alive, on its official web site, WeAreTheFallen.com. Rather than bring out an album, Moody says the group plans to release new material sporadically via the Internet; another track is due out in September before the quintet hits the road and then the band will release two songs every eight weeks. Moody says We Are The Fallen is considering a terrestrial CD for 2010 that may contain extended versions of the songs as well as orchestral interludes and perhaps even live recordings and footage from the tour.
“I just think we live in an instant gratification world where bands need to hit quicker,” Moody explains. “The great thing about Bury Me Alive is it was mastered on a Friday and released on a Monday. We’re not tired of listening to it in our cars yet. And as far as fans go, you won’t see us disappear for a year and a half or sometimes three years so we can write and record an album. You’re gonna get the absolute heart and soul of our creativity, and you’re going to get that immediately. That way every song matters, and I think the music will be better that way.”

I’m sorry Ben, but I heard Bury Me Alive and I REALLY don’t like it. To be honest I don’t think this band is going anywhere. However I can’t wait for new Evanescence music next year!!!

After Ben Moody left the band, it seems to me the sound of Evanescence changed. I do enjoy listening to the Evanescence album the open door, but it leaves me in want, I feel it doesn’t deliver the substance that fallen did.

Listening to Bury me Alive has made me excited. We are the Fallen, at this stage, looks like it will pass on the substance from the Evanescence album Fallen, that died in 2003.

We are the Fallen sounds like they are going to be a great band. Evanescence is still my favorite but I am going to enjoy hearing what We are the Fallen offers as well.

omgzzz…well i guess we do have to give “we are the fallen” a chance..after all they got more evanescence that evanescence.
But since they did start unoriginal…i hate it..its like trying to take evanescence away and form a new amylee.

Evanescence rocked!! especially the first album, Amy Lee’s recent creation, especially Lithium is awesome. Ben is right, she is an awesome singer. I am excited for the fallen.. I think you guys will be great and can come out as the next big thing in rock and hard rock..all the best.

It is not bad, that ben and amy goes their own way, but ben’s way with his singer choice leads to Bury His Band Alive. She patheticly wants to look like Amy, but. . . Carly has no charisma and his singing talent is usable maximaly at local weddings.
Maybe she is great person, I don’t know her, but this is about singing. . .
    I am sorry for that. . . but I think It’s true

evanescence can never be replaced. and we are the fallen is disappointing to me because i feel like they are very unoriginal and appears to be trying to replace amy lee

i loveeeee amy lee and evanescence!!

sorry ben but i heard “bury me alive” and im not gonna lie i liked the sound of it but that girl “carly” is trying to sound like amy and theres no way she’ll be able to pull that off. Amy is unique and Evanescence is my FAVORITE band. im still in shocked that you and john and rocky left the band but hey thats life. anyways what im trying to say is that ur band wont go near amy lee’s work. im sorry to tell you that but thats what im feeling. and i also think that you shouldnt critic on amy’s work becuase she is doing a heck of a great job. even tho the sound changes i like it because its her singing. she has a beautiful voice. that carly girl is just an immitation of amy. but she isnt really pulling it off. heck she even looks a little like amy but amy is more beautiful. i abhor the way that carly girls sings. amy’s voice is natural, and i like it unlike carly’s.
i do wish ur band the best and alot of success. but dont expect for alot of people to prefer ur music over amy’s :)

    much love,
    from texas. :)
