Legends & Lyrics is distributed and presented by American Public Television and will appear on PBS stations nationwide starting April 2009 (check local listings).

With Evanescence On Hiatus, Amy Lee Open To New Opportunites

12 Jan

After undergoing numerous lineup changes, Evanescence released The Open Door to critical acclaim back in 2006 and it only took a few months for the album to be certified platinum with over a million in album sales. Lead vocalist Amy Lee, who remains the only original member of Evanescence, continues to express her creativity in other projects and outlets while the band continues their hiatus from the road and the studio. In fact, Amy Lee revealed one of her dreams as a young girl, besides being in a rock band was to score music for films. So can Lee’s fans expect to see her scoring films in the future? “I would love to do some scoring, I would love to be able to get into that. That’s been a big dream of mine as long as this has. I don’t know how long the break’s going to be or what the music is going to be like, but I’m definitely open for a cool opportunity to come up.” Lee continues to stay busy outside Evanescence as she recently sang a remake of Sally’s Song for the soundtrack Nightmare Revisited, which contains new material and covers of songs from the original Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack from the film by Tim Burton. Rumors have been circulating that Lee is currently writing songs for a solo album, but as of press time there is no confirmation if Lee will begin her solo career or head back into the studio with Evanescence.

Amy Lee Reveals Her ‘Nightmare’

6 Nov

Amy Lee and Tim Burton’s ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ go together like Ted Nugent and the NRA. To that end, it only made sense that the Evanescence frontwoman lend her pipes to a version of ‘Sally’s Song’ for the film’s renewed soundtrack, titled ‘Nightmare Revisted.’ “This is literally a dream come true,” Lee tells PopEater. “The music is insanely good in the movie and ‘Sally’s Song’ is my favorite.” Lee says she was talking to the music supervisor for the project, not knowing the ‘Revisited’ soundtrack was even in the making. Coincidentally, the supervisor had a plaque for the film on his wall. The two immediately bonded over their love of the movie, when he then asked her if she wanted to be involved. “I said to him, ‘Listen, don’t mess with me. I would love to do that,’” Lee says. “And Danny Elfman is my hero.” Lee says that Elfman, who wrote the score for ‘Nightmare,’ as well as countless other Tim Burton films including ‘Edward Scissorhands’ and ‘Batman,’ is the person she aims to shape her career after. “I’m in love with this guy, and he’s such a big inspiration for me.” Lee, who is currently writing new songs of her own, has dreams of writing film scores. But until she figures out the next step, be it another Evanescence album, scoring or a solo effort, she’s happy with one advance in particular. “I played the harp on ‘Sally’s Song,” she says, excitedly. “That’s something I really wanted to do.”

Count Five: Amy Lee’s Top 5 Horror Movies

3 Nov

Evanescence’s Amy Lee loves her some Halloween, which, if you ask us, is pretty convenient given she has a voice that could wake the dead. To that end, Lee, who just lent her pipes to a version of ‘Sally’s Song’ on the ‘Nightmare Revisted’ soundtrack, and who is currently in the throes of writing new songs of her own, sat down with Spinner to reveal her Top Five favorite horror films just in time for the holiday.
1. ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’: I have to watch this movie at Halloween, and the fact that I get to be a part of it [on the 'Nightmare Revisited' soundtrack], as an uber-fan, is great. I watch this movie with my family every year. When this movie came out it, inspired me creatively. I was a big art nerd.
2. ‘Halloween’: You have to watch this movie, and the original is the one to watch. I’ve been watching this movie for so long and I have so many memories of being scared. Also, with the older movies, you feel like you’re in a different time. I liked the new one a lot, too. My husband is a giant Mike Myers fan and even he liked it.
3. ‘Carrie’: This is such a great one. I just love seeing the downtrodden get revenge like that. And [Sissy Spacek's] a great actress in this movie.
4. ‘Psycho’: And then the Hitchcock movies. ‘Psycho’ is especially scary. It still creeps me out and it’s very old. I didn’t see the new one.
5. ‘The Birds’: This is one of the first scary movies I was allowed to watch. It was really scary when I was young and it’s still scary now, in its non-gore way. It’s very subtle.
