EVERYBODY’S FOOL

• Release: May 2004
• Filmed: in mid-April 2004
• Shoot Location: Los Angeles
• Director: Philip Stolzlck
• Written by: Amy Lee, Ben Moody and David Hodges
• Info: Carrie Lee’s fascination with pop stars such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera was the inspiration for the song. Amy Lee said that Carrie, 8 at the time, started to dress as those two superstars and that it angered Amy. It is track #3 and the fourth single off of Fallen.
• The video is a live action video that portrays the life of a glamorous superstar (played by Amy Lee) who is really unhappy with the way she portrays herself in the media. She sells Lies consumer products (perfume, pizza, energy drink, and a little doll). Towards the end of the video she expresses deep regret for selling Lies in the first place.
MY IMMORTAL

• Release: October 2003
• Filmed: The video was filmed 2 weeks before Ben Moody walked away (September/October 2003)
• Shoot Location: Barcelona, Spain
• Director: David Mouldy
• Written by: Amy Lee and Ben Moody
• About the Video: The video touches upon the theme of solitude and loneliness. Amy never touches the floor in the video, because she is a ghost.
• About the Song: One of the most popular songs ever recorded by the band. This song lasts the entire span of Evanescence’s recording history. It is credited as the 4th song ever written for Evanescence. Ben Moody wrote the original in full when he was 15 years old. It is the second song that he wrote for the band (Understanding is credited as his first). In the later versions of the song, Amy Lee is credited to have written the bridge and the coinciding piano part to the song. There are seven different recorded versions of the song. The Fallen version of the song has strings by composer Graeme Revell.
• Until the almost end of 2002, the Fallen version was played live and after that they played the ‘Band’ version, which later became the version they released as a single. When performed live, Amy is playing the piano herself, but the notes are changed into a much simpler melody, probably to avoid mistakes during live playing. Amy said she can never really relate to the song (and that you can notice that when performed live), since it is not hers and not based on real occurances.
• The song has many different interpretations. Ben wrote a short story before writing the lyrics to the song. The song according to Ben is about a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won’t leave you alone. Ben dedicated the song along with the Fallen album to his grandfather. The song peaked at #2 on the pop chart just behind Britney Spears’ Toxic, and was #1 on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart for 3 weeks.
• The band version of My Immortal is Ben Moody’s last recording with Evanescence before his departure in October of 2003.
• This song has been nominated for Best Pop Vocal Performance by Duo or Group for the 47th Annual Grammy Awards.
MY IMMORTAL

• Release: March 2003
• Filmed: in January 2003
• Shoot Location: Romania
• Director: Philip Stolzl
• Written by: Amy Lee, Ben Moody, and David Hodges
• About the Video: The video is a live performance/action video. The video features a nightmare by Amy Lee in which she falls from a building that apparently has endless amounts of stories. Paul McCoy in the video attempts to save Amy but she slips off towards the end.
• About the Song: Amy Lee became inspired to write that song after she was sitting in a restaurant. Somebody walked up to her table and asked her something to the effect of “Are you happy with your life”? Bring Me to Life became the #1 pop song in the country the week of June 13th, 2003 only to be replaced a week later by Kelly Clarkson’s Miss Independent. The song features Paul McCoy, the lead singer of 12 Stones.
• Amy Lee’s quote about the song from MTV.com: “Basically, we go through life every day, kind of doing the same thing, going through the motions, and nothing phases us for the most part, then one day something happens that wakes [you] up and makes [you] realize that there’s more to life than just feeling nothing, feeling numb. It’s as if [you've] never felt before and just realized there’s this whole world of emotion or meaning that [you've] never seen before. It’s just like, ‘Wow, I’ve been asleep all this time.’ ”
• The song was originally intended to be without the male vocals when Wind-up felt that it was best to put a male vocalist into the song for the Daredevil soundtrack. The version that featured Paul McCoy stuck.
• In a magazine interview, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park said that Mike Shinoda was originally asked to be featured on the song. Linkin Park was recording Meteora in the same studio that Evanescence was recording Fallen.
• In an interview titled “Amy Lee: Back In Black”, she said she wrote “Bring Me To Life” about her long time friend (now husband, apparently) Josh.
MY IMMORTAL

• Release: May 2004
• Filmed: in May 2003
• Shoot Location: Berlin, Germany, but most of it was filmed in Los Angeles, California
• Director: Philip Stolzlck
• Written by: Amy Lee, Ben Moody, and David Hodges
• About the Video: The video is a live-performance/action vide. It follows the band performing at what can be assumed as a concert in which they’re the headliners, Amy swimming and singing underwater, and Ben being questioned relentlessly by the media (The media’s constant questions about the band’s religious affiliation inspired that part in the video). Evil Dead, one of Ben’s favorite movies inspires the use of the zombies in the video. The underwater scene was Amy’s idea. She also designed two of the costumes she’s wearing in the video. The crimson corset costed her $2,500, the biggest amount of money she’d ever spent on a piece of clothes. The other outfit had been stitched by Amy herself. “It’s white and has a lot of shreds. It reminds me of something someone who died would wear”. The idea of them came to her while she was nursing an illness in a hotel in Los Angeles.
• About the Song: Amy Lee wrote the song about a previous emotionally and physically damaging relationship. The song was the last song written for Fallen and was originally plugged as the first single had Bring Me to Life not been put onto the Daredevil soundtrack. It became the second single.
